Basic Buddhism I
This structured Basic Buddhism Course offers and opportunity to learn the basic essential principals of Buddhism and Insights. It will demonstrate how Buddhism related to our daily life and that by practising the principals of Buddhism, it will lead us to happiness and freedom from life’s problems. The Fundamentals of Buddhism will be discussed and the Venerable’s treatment of the topics will be refreshing not only to newcomers, but also for long-time students of the Dhamma.

Upon completion of Basic Buddhism I, we will continue to explore the teachings of the Buddha in the following year, covering topics like Kamma, Realms of Existence, Dependent Origination, Three Marks of Existences, Five Aggregates and Five Hindrances, Four Immeasurables, The Path of An Arahat and a Bodhisattva, etc.
Lecturer’s Profile
Venerable Shi Chun Nian is from Bao Guang Fo Tang Temple, a Buddhist Nunnery at Thomson. Previously a Malaysian, she came to do her tertiary education in Singapore and graduated from NUS in 1995 with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons). She took up the robes in Singapore in 1999 and was ordained under the tutelage of Venerable Sek Te Yuan, at the age of 27.
After her ordination, Venerable studied at the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University in Myanmar from 2000 to 2004 and obtained a BA in Buddhist Studies. She was exposed to a balanced system of training, comprising both theory and practice.
Since her return to Singapore, Venerable has been conducting English Dhamma lessons and meditation classes. Currently she conducts regular Dharma Courses at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery and meditations classes at Bao Guang Fo Tang Temple.
