Basic Buddhism II

Semester II: 9 Lessons
Buddhist Councils and the spread of Buddhism out of India, to Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and other Southeast Asia countries, and also northwards to East Asia, namely China, Japan, Korean and to the Himalayan region. How Buddhism has evolved over the centuries in these regions.

Lecturer’s Profile

Venerable Shi Chun Nian is from Bao Guang Fo Tang Temple, a Buddhist Nunnery at Thomson. Previously a Malaysian, she came to do her tertiary education in Singapore and graduated from NUS in 1995 with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons). She took up the robes in Singapore in 1999 and was ordained under the tutelage of Venerable Sek Te Yuan, at the age of 27.

After her ordination, Venerable studied at the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University in Myanmar from 2000 to 2004 and obtained a BA in Buddhist Studies. She was exposed to a balanced system of training, comprising both theory and practice.

Since her return to Singapore, Venerable has been conducting English Dhamma lessons and meditation classes. Currently she conducts regular Dharma Courses at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery and meditations classes at Bao Guang Fo Tang Temple.
